Daniela Arias Laurino

Degree in Architecture from the University of the Republic of Uruguay (UdelaR). She holds a PhD in Theory and History of Architecture from the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Barcelona (ETSAB) and a Master in Collective Housing Laboratory of the 21st Century from the same school.

She is currently Associate Professor at the ETSAB – UPC in the Theory and History Department and teaches since 2020 in postgraduate courses at universities such as PUCE, Ecuador; TEC de Monterrey, Mexico; or UdelaR, Uruguay. Her specific topics focus on inclusive urbanism, the history of women in architecture and feminist theory, its methodological forms and epistemology.

She has been professor of Architectural Project Design (2005-2011) and researcher at the Permanent Housing Unit of the FADU – UdelaR. She was also a lecturer at the Master’s Degree in Housing in Barcelona.

Since 2015 she is editor-in-chief and co-founder of the network and website “Un día | Una arquitecta” for the research and dissemination of the work of women architects (https://undiaunaarquitecta.wordpress.com/).

As an independent researcher, she focuses her interests on the multiple aspects of women’s discrimination in the field of architecture. She has participated in several international research projects on this topic, but also on social housing management, social exclusion and the cooperative housing model. She has written several articles and book chapters related to history, architecture and the city from a gender perspective.

She has been an external consultant for the application of the gender perspective in the drafting of plans and diagnoses in Uruguay and Spain and has also given lectures, courses and has been a member of juries in numerous American and European universities.
